This student actively participates in class discussion, is eager to ask questions, and recognizes concepts for which he/she needs clarification. Communication skills that are learned and practiced in school are naturally carried over into other aspects of a student's daily life too, as good communicators students also make good friends! At Kerkstra Elementary School, I help students develop and improve their communication skills related to language, articulation, fluency, pragmatics, literacy, and voice. I work with students to meet Illinois Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Special Education and Response to Intervention (RtI) groups in grades 1st through 5th grade. Within this site, parents and teachers can learn more about communication development and the most common types of problems in school-aged children. Parents can review and access online resources and interactive games for at-home practice, and read descriptions of various communication difficulties as the year progresses.
